Calhoun / Lake of the Isles Route

Alcohol: Not allowed - Minneapolis Park Board property
Stops: None, but there are pull-offs and parking lots.
Difficulty: Difficult. Many hills, some passenger pushing may be required.
Flexibility: None. Route is fixed. See map.
Length: About six miles. Three hours is recommended for this tour.
Starts At: Thomas Beach parking lot at Upton Ave So and West Calhoun Parkway. (Pay meters are available in the parking lot, but there is some free parking available on the street.)

SUGGESTED ROUTE:
  • East (left) on East Calhoun Parkway, counter clockwise around the lake
  • Cross Lake Street and Lagoon Avenue to Lake of the Isles Parkway East
  • At the north end of Lake of the Isles, continue south on Lake of the Isles Parkway West
  • West (right) on Dean Parkway - 3.9 miles
  • South (left) on Cedar Lake Parkway - 4.3 miles
  • Cross Lake Street to West Calhoun Parkway - 4.5 miles
  • South on West Calhoun Parkway back to Thomas Beach - 5.9 miles
This tour of part of our Chain of Lakes passes some of the most beautiful scenery and homes in the Twin Cities. Physically demanding at times. This route takes at least two hours to complete, with very few stops.

Note: This route is on Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board property, and there is a 25% surcharge that applies to all MPRB routes. This fee goes directly to the MPRB. Also our contract with the MPRB prohibits alcohol on this tour.
